Privacy and cookie policy
How the Championship website processes personal data and which cookies it uses.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The controller of personal data processed in connection with this website is Zespół Szkół Elektryczno-Mechanicznych im. gen. Józefa Kustronia w Nowym Sączu, ul. Bolesława Limanowskiego 4, 33-300 Nowy Sącz, Poland (ZSEM). For any data protection matters, write to pomoc@geoguessr.zsem.edu.pl. Contact details of the school's data protection officer are published on zsem.edu.pl.
2. What data we collect and why
- Technical data (IP address, browser type, the page visited, date and time) is recorded in server logs. We use it only to keep the website running and secure. Legal basis: the controller's legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are kept for a limited time.
- Visit statistics (Google Analytics 4) — only with your consent. They show us how many people visit the site and which pages are read most. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Art. 399 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law). Without consent, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all.
- E-mail — if you write to us, we process your address and message to reply. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(e) and (f) GDPR.
Data of competition participants (registrations, statements, results) is described in the Regulations and their annexes.
3. Cookies and browser storage
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| lang | essential (browser storage) | remembers the language you chose | until you delete it |
| app.read | essential (browser storage) | remembers which announcements you have read | until you delete it |
| consent | essential (browser storage) | remembers your cookie choice | 12 months |
| _ga, _ga_* | analytics (Google Analytics) — only after consent | distinguishing visitors and counting visits | up to 2 years |
Essential storage does not require consent, because without it the site cannot remember your settings. Analytics cookies are set only after you click “Accept” in the cookie notice.
4. Google Analytics
Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Google may transfer data to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or ad profiling — advertising consents (Google Consent Mode) are always off. Statistics are kept for no longer than 14 months.
5. Content from other services
- YouTube videos (privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) load only after you click the player.
- Flag icons are loaded from cdnjs (Cloudflare) — this server sees your IP address when the page loads.
- Links to Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Discord and Facebook lead to those services, whose privacy policies then apply.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict processing, to object, and to data portability. You can withdraw consent to statistics at any time with the “Cookie settings” button in the footer; withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland).
7. Changes
If we change how we process data or which cookies we use, we will update this page and the date at the top.
